Antique Japanese Military 1895 Battle of Weihaiwei Commemorative DishThis is an antique Japanese dish, decorated with a detailed picture of the bay of Weihaiwei, with ships sinking in the back and Japanese troops marching on the defenses in the front. This was a harbour and fort designed by German advisors for the Qing government, and was the main port of the Qing Beiyang fleet. The Japanese were trying to take this (and succeeded in doing so) as the last major battle of the Sino Japanese War of 1895. The words on the

The words are "Leaving the service commemoration" "70th Infantry"

This is an antique Japanese military commemorative dish

which suggests that this is probably a dish from the 30s

The words are "22nd Field Artillery Leaving the Service Commemoration"

I presume Shima is the place of the star

The sailor's name Mizuochi is on the back

Condition: Mint

The Hikari Naval Arsenal produced munitions and other materials for the Japanese navy

The exterior of the cup is in the shape of a helmet with a pair of shells as the base

although modern maps don't seem to have this place anymore

and the words "Loyalty and Bravery" embossed on it
