Calla Lily - YellowWhile Robert Mapplethorpe might be best known for his provocative portraits, the photographer also had an obsession with flowers, capturing lilies, roses, and tulips in both black and white and color film. After starting his career in the 1970's exhibiting erotic male and female nudes he turned his attention to still lifes of flowers in the mid 80's . At this time he was stricken with Aids and passed away in 1989 aged 42.
